Although BLUE COURVOISIER has gained both his wins on stiff tracks his enthusiastic style should lend itself even better to a speed-favouring course such as this one and he gets the vote from a handy stall. Fellow 3-y-o Crest of Fire hasn't fared quite so well with the draw but is still feared most ahead of Spell Master and Thunder Wonder.

Rock Of Cashel (IRE)
Useful performer for Aidan O'Brien last year. Struggled in Meydan for new yard at the start of the year and didn't need to be at best to win 7-runner handicap at Ovrevoll (8.7f, good) in May. Well held in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot since and in deep again here.
Alpha Crucis (IRE)
C&D winner but has drawn a blank since a 1m success here on heavy in autumn 2024. Returned with a pair of respectable fifths at Doncaster (Lincoln) and Epsom but this ground seems likely to be quicker than ideal for him.
Boyfriend
Better than ever when winning over 1m at Sandown in May and backed it up with a fine third of 14 there (1¼m, good to soft) in June. Respectable fifth in this race 12 months ago.
Real Gain (IRE)
Hasn't stood much racing in recent years. Two respectable efforts for new yard in the spring and a good record fresh means a break since is probably no bad thing. Third in the Golden Mile at this meeting last year so he's at home on the track. Stall 18 could make life tricky, though.
El Matador (IRE)
Good placed efforts in handicaps on all 4 starts this year. No extra late on when third over 1¼m at Ripon in May but nearest finish when filling the same position over 1m at Newcastle since so this in-between trip could be ideal. Player.
Ammes (IRE)
Has returned to the Flat with 3 creditable in-frame efforts, the latest when fourth of 12 in the Old Newton Cup at Newmarket (1½m, firm) 24 days ago. Drops back in trip now. Could be on the premises again.
Spell Master
Ended light 2025 campaign with win at Newcastle (7f) in October for Andrew Balding. Bettered that form at second time of asking for new yard when sixth of 22 in John Smith's Cup at York (10.3f, good to firm) 21 days ago. One for the shortlist.
Nostrum
Smart earlier in his career but struggled for David O'Meara in 2025. More encouraging signs for new yard this year, notably his Sandown second in May, but comfortably held at Newmarket in cheekpieces on last 2 outings.
Sweet Reward (IRE)
Veteran who won twice on fast turf at Lingfield in May. Did too much too soon when well held at Sandown (1¼m, good to soft) since and this former C&D scorer is better judged on those winning efforts.
Point Of Contact (IRE)
Newbury maiden winner (at 1m) who showed benefit of reappearance run when making breakthrough in handicaps at York (9f) in June, showing a good attitude. Found out in a higher grade at Sandown since.
Shafdar (IRE)
Relatively lightly-raced 4-y-o has won twice since joining current yard. Lacked the pace to land a blow when sixth in a slightly better race at Sandown last time. Tongue tied first time. This trip may suit and enters calculations.
Crest Of Fire (IRE)
Took his form up another notch on his reappearance after a gelding operation when a wide-margin winner of 1m Southwell maiden in March. Even better efforts in defeat in handicaps since, notably his near miss at Ascot (1m, good to firm) 22 days ago, pulling clear of the rest. Much respected.
Thinthread
Dual winner around 9f in France for Andre Fabre. Off 9 months, offered something to build on when fifth of 7 in 1½m Kempton handicap last month. Back down in trip with first-time cheekpieces added.
Great Chieftain (IRE)
Five wins, including here, but has been operating a little below his best so far this year. Well handicapped again as a result but a leap of faith is needed.
First Ambition
Both wins on all-weather. Well held in the Lincoln at Doncaster in March (final start for Karl Burke) and never involved for new yard at Kempton last month. Hard to make a case for.
Blue Courvoisier
Improved to bag a valuable prize at Carlisle (1m, good) in May. Raced on the unfavoured part of the track in the Britannia at Royal Ascot and better judged on the Carlisle form. Well drawn and capable of making his presence felt.
Alcaraz (FR)
Ex-Spanish gelding who was runner-up in 1¼m handicaps at Newbury and Sandown (both good to soft) for Tom Dascombe last year. Shaped as if needing the run on Chepstow return for new yard 10 weeks ago. Off again since.
Thunder Wonder (IRE)
Eleven runs since last win in 2025 but was back on form when third of 9 in handicap at Musselburgh (9f, good to firm) 32 days ago, caught further back than ideal. Enters calculations.
